I am Associate Professor of political science at the University of Florida. I received my PhD in political science from the University of Washington. My current research and teaching focus on the politics of resource wealth and on ethnic and nationalist mobilization in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States. My first book, Hard Times in the Lands of Plenty, was published in 2007 by Cornell University Press. A second, co-authored, book, Rethinking the Resource Curse, was published April 1, 2021, at Cambridge University Press. A third, sole-authored book on national identity, is underway and I presented preliminary materials from it at the 2019 meetings of the American Political Science Association in Washington, DC.

You can find information about my research at the link above left.
